Introduction to the International Cocoa Industry

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course introduces the basics of organic farming for agricultural practitioners, particularly those involved in small- to medium-sized operations and located in developing or least-developed countries. Its first module introduces the general aspects of organic farming, and aims to help participants determine whether organic farming is a viable and interesting opportunity for their farm/company. Its second to fourth modules are more technical and take participants through the organic transition, production, certification and marketing process, providing practical tips and advice on evaluating and improving soil quality, implementing pest and disease control mechanisms, and finding the most promising channels to sell their organic produce, among other things.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

Assess the roles of the different actors within the international cocoa supply chain;
Understand the key contractual terms for the cocoa industry, as well as how to use them; and
Evaluate some of the main "do's and dont's" in producing a quality cocoa crop.

NOTE:

We recommend using the latest version of the Chrome or Safari browsers to ensure an optimal experience viewing the lectures.
