This course examines the role of standards and best practices as keys to competitiveness for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) involved in information technology (IT) and IT enabled services (ITES) outsourcing.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course examines the role of standards and best practices as keys to competitiveness for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) involved in information technology (IT) and IT-enabled services (ITES) outsourcing. In addition to introducing the various ways in which enterprises can demonstrate compliance with specific organizational and individual standards or best practices, it gives SMEs the tools to evaluate whether or not certification is necessary for them and, if so, the best way of successfully achieving it.

NOTE:

Participants to this course should already have a basic understanding of IT and ITES outsourcing, as well as of the various business activities which involvement in the IT and ITES fields entails. After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess the elements of standards and best practices that are valued by clients;
  • Identify and research standards that may potentially be useful for their IT/ITES outsourcing activities;
  • Grasp the various issues related to certification; and
  • Formulate an appropriate roadmap to implement/become certified to a standard.

COURSE CERTIFICATION

Participants who meet the course requirements will receive a Certificate of Completion issued in electronic format.

Since 2005, Mr. Martin Labbe has been giving technology and trade topic training and advice to both small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and trade-support institutions (TSI) in developing countries and transition economies at the ITC. Since January 2014, his work has been focusing on strengthening TSIs as effective multipliers and export-support organizations by benchmarking them and designing action-oriented performance improvement roadmaps in conjunction with their management.


In this context, he is currently managing ITC’s AIM For Results project, which assesses TSIs, improves their performance, and measures the achieved results in countries such as Benin, Morocco, Zambia and Mauritius. In the 1.9 MUSD NTF III Bangladesh project (2014-2017), he is advising the local IT association and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry on their services portfolio and institutional reforms.


Before joining ITC, Martin Labbe marketed French IT SMEs on the UK market with the French trade-promotion organisation UBIFRANCE between 2003 and 2005. He held a similar position in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 1999 until 2003.

Depuis 2005, Martin Labbé fournit des formations thématiques et des conseils sur la technologie aux petites et moyennes entreprises (PME) et aux institutions d’appui au commerce (IAC) dans les pays en développement et les économies en transition. Depuis janvier 2014, son travail se concentre sur le renforcement des IAC en tant que multiplicateurs efficaces et sur les organisations de soutien à l’exportation, à travers la création d’analyses comparatives et la conception de feuilles de route pour améliorer leurs performances et leur modèles de gestion.


Dans ce contexte, il gère actuellement le projet AIM du CCI, qui évalue les IAC, aide à améliorer leurs performances, et mesure les résultats obtenus dans les pays tels que le Bénin, le Maroc, la Zambie et Maurice. Au sein du projet NTF III au Bangladesh (2014-2017), il agit en tant que conseiller pour l’association informatique locale et la chambre du commerce et de l’industrie de Dhaka sur leur portefeuille de service et leurs réformes institutionnelles.  


Avant de rejoindre le CCI, Martin Labbé travaillait avec les PME françaises dans le marché britannique avec l’organisation de promotion commerciale française UBIFRANCE entre 2003 et 2005. Il a occupé un poste similaire à Almaty, au Kazakhstan, de 1999 à 2003.
